Celebrate Library Lovers Day at Blue Mountains Library on 14 February

The theme for Library Lovers Day on 14 February 2022 is Show the Love, and that is exactly what the Blue Mountains Library team have been doing for the community.

Throughout lockdown, members of Blue Mountains City Councilʼs Library service stayed connected with a stitching challenge – the Crochet Heart. These hearts are now being offered to the wider community, incorporated into bookmarks for your next loan.

Drop into your local branch on 14 February to collect a handmade crochet heart bookmark and a heart shaped chocolate. Numbers are limited. Blue Mountains Mayor, Councillor Mark Greenhill, is encouraging the community to show the love.

“Library Lovers Day is a day to remember that our libraries are a place where we can get lost in an idea we are following, find an adventure we are seeking, discover more about an issue we feel passionate about, or get help from someone about something we want to know,” Mayor Greenhill said.

“These are all the reasons to celebrate the valuable roles libraries play in our lives and to re-engage with our libraries and show the love.”

To support this initiative, the Blue Mountains Theatre and Community Hub are also offering a youth workshop on how to crochet your own heart.

Learn common terminology and the foundational skills that underpin every crochet project, with this hands-on introductory workshop for young people aged 11-16. By the end of the class you will have made your very own crochet heart and have the knowledge to continue developing your skills.

The workshop includes a take home pack with crochet hook, yarn and instructions to continue practicing your skills, as well as an information sheet to review the terminology. Find your love of crochet this Library Lovers Day (Valentine's Day)!

Bookings for the workshop are essential, and can be made at https://www.bluemountainstheatre.com.au/what-s-on/season-2022/crochet-hearts-workshop/
